More than 1.5 million tonnes of sugar was sold against the ICE May raw sugar futures contract, exchange data showed on Monday, confirming traders' expectations reported on Friday and marking the second-largest delivery against the contract. The delivery totaled 29,947 lots, or 1,521,380 tonnes, the Intercontinental Exchange Inc said on Monday. The purchase, which traders said was split up amongst five trade houses, was worth about $538 million based on Friday's closing prices. The size was surpassed only by a record delivery of 1.9 million tonnes in May 2015, according to data dating back to 1989.
